Arrival

Danzhe Chen made this video at the end of the Budapest Through Streets, People and Cinema course. It combines scenes from three Hungarian films: Time Stands Still (1982), Home Guards (2015) and Larry (2022). The music is a famous Hungarian folk song turned pop song, Ha én rózsa volnék. The creator’s commentary: I first heard this song in my Budapest studies class. The professor mentioned how this old folk song became appreciated by young people as a revolt symbol. I find it resonates with these three movies about young people in Hungary. The shots I included are mostly people in motion. However, it is not only about people in motion, but generation in motion, trends of time in motion. When the tides of time roll on, the stories of people from different eras become like fine sand washed away by the flowing water. What will destiny lead them when arriving, on an early morning, on a late night, or never?
