In her video essay, Mehrezat Abbas created a piece using footage and photos from her private library. Her work was partly inspired by the editing technique of Love, a film by Károly Makk. This is her commentary on her work:
The first and sudden idea for my project was scribbled into my notebook for algorithms:
rapid city budapest
child adult
home busy
family independence
freedom trams
I didn’t start editing my video with much more than that in mind. I think it’s nonetheless become a nice story about a daydreaming commuter and homes that change. But I don’t know for sure. Like we talked about in class, montage seems to be a mysteriously effective way of showing a message instead of saying it.
